Singers and songwriters have a chance to show their stuff at this year’s revamped Local Q Music Fest. Two regional acts and five contest finalists will perform May 5 at Johnny Bang Bang’s in Quincy. To enter the contest, artists must submit three copies of a three-song CD of original work between March 1 and 14 to The Quincy Herald-Whig. The singer can perform alone or can be accompanied by one musician playing only an acoustic guitar or piano. “I think it’s a great idea,” said Dennis Oliver, program director at Y101 in Quincy and a veteran on-air personality who is one of the judges. “Any time you can showcase local talent around here, it’s a no-brainer because there’s a wealth of music around here.” Last year’s...
