'Tchaikovsky' in Quincy

The Quincy Civic Music Association presents the “Tchaikovsky” St. Petersburg State Orchestra in the Morrison Theater of Quincy Junior High at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The orchestra is a 100-piece group of musicians whose tours have had successful concerts in Europe, China and Japan. This Quincy performance is part of its first transcontinental tour of the U.S.

Roman Leontiev, music director and chief conductor, is recognized as one of the pre-eminent Russian conductors of his generation. Alexandre Pirojenko, pianist, is a young international star whose work has been called “sensitive, original and brilliant” by the Washington Post. He will be performing the Piano Concerto No. 1 by Sergei Prokofiev.
