Quincy High School’s theatre department will begin 2012 with the classic Louisa May Alcott story, “Little Women.”
The production is the first all-female cast in QHS history and will feature some of QHS’s finest young actresses.
Set in the mid 1800s, four sisters — Meg (Sierra Schnack), Jo (Mackenzie Johnston), Beth (Prudence Bickhaus), and Amy (Jordan Lefever) — take the audience on a journey of friendship, family, love, and loss. As the March sisters grow into young women, it is their mother Marmee (Kelsey Deters) who helps to set a good example and encourage independent thinking. At a time when it is not a woman’s place to be independent, some of the sisters feel at odds with the world. Aunt March (Melisa Schwartz) is a firm believer in the proper upbringing of young girls and manages to spark confrontation wherever she goes.
Other characters include the March family servant, Hannah (Rachel Foster), fine society girl Sallie (Kara Bainter), and relative Aunt Carrol (Kerry Howard).
Directors include Meghan Buckley and Tom Burnett.
Show dates are 7:30 p.m. Feb. 9, 10 and 11 at in the Quincy High School theater. Tickets are priced at $7 for students and $10 for adults and may be purchased at the door or QHS music office. For more information, please call the Quincy High School music office at (217) 224-3774
