From the Band
SevenD2 is a band created by Jason Launer, the band’s singer. The name SevenD2 was the idea of the Colorado-raised Launer, and the model year Plymouth Road Runner he used when he drove to Illinois. Formed in 2003, Jason used his musical prowess to create a group of musicians whose primary purpose is to connect with the audience — may it be heartfelt original music or danceable covers. The show’s presentation varies from performance to performance dependent on the mood and desires of the crowd. Requests are frequently granted. With the original line-up of musicians, SevenD2 created two all-original CD’s. In 2003, "Something New" was the debut CD, followed by "Str8 4word" in 2005. Check out a show. You won’t be disappointed. And look forward to a new original CD coming soon!!

From the Band
It all started with a pair of rowdy home schooled boys running around half-naked in Superman capes to Star Wars music. Those brothers are Eric and Christian Barfield, and this is the strange, yet true story of how Watching Judas began.

Growing up with the works of T.S. Elliot, Hemingway, and Poe, as well as a unhealthy number of Three Stooges and Looney Tunes episodes, Eric began to compose as an outlet at the tender age of 7 years, co-writing a song with his father and musical mentor, Michael Barfield. Christian soon followed, stretching his ever-changing voice to sing along with groups like DC Talk, Jars of Clay, and A.D. Both boys took piano lessons after protest, and began the tedious chore of progressing past "Heart and Soul". After driving music lovers everywhere to the brink of suicide with countless renditions of originals on any piano not glued shut, Eric was able to convince Christian to lend his peculiar vocal/piano talents to the music.

After a short debate, they christened the band "Watching Judas" and set out to form the other half of a group. Soon after the talented bassist and long-time friend Paul Nahrgang joined Watching Judas. Life was blissful for a time, then tradegy struck- the drummer that had been with the group from the inception was suddenly whisked away to college, never to be heard from again. After a desperate search for a replacement, they stumbled upon the quiet talent of Aaron Wahoff, also a homeschooler and close friend. After some tweaking, the group came together in a dimly-lit corner of a Borders Books in front of a crowd high on coffee and cheese cake.

These days, Watching Judas packs a pair of blazing keyboards, and they're not afraid to use them. Armed with an battery of thought-provoking lyrics, hooks, and a healthy appreciation for all those that attempt existence in a fallen universe, Watching Judas keeps busy creating music to illuminate the unkept stories of struggles and triumphs of ordinary people, each dancing the razor's edge between cynicism and hope.

Ryan McSpadden has played guitar for 20 years. His influences are many, including blues greats BB King, Buddy guy and Eric Clapton.

Bill Collins has been playing bass since 1993. His musical influences are James Brown, the Allman Brothers, and Muddy Waters to name a few.

Around us.

From the Band
After all of us became friends (JW and I grew up in Lincoln together, Drew grew up in Carthage), we were in and out of school at WIU (I was kicked out), and we all found ourselves still living in Macomb. JW and Drew had a house big enough to set up all their music equipment and practice. I was living in a trailer with my roommate, another musician, and we both started writing songs. JW, Drew, and my roommate started the band originally while I was still spending most of my time playing at bars on my acoustic.

Somewhere in that time period I was added to the band after I played JW some rough versions of “Shakin’ with John Wayne” and “See you in Hell.” He told me he was interested in playing drums on them and adding some friends. Pretty soon we had a set of songs that I had written and put together with Drew and JW. So we started playing out as a four-piece with my roommate on lead guitar. My roommate left the band after the first show and we have been a three piece ever since. I can’t really remember when we first called ourselves a band, but we’ve been playing together for about 3 years.

Not an incredible story of how a band gets together, but I think that the gravity of the situation is intangible. It’s an amazing feeling when you and your friends create something original together or encourage another friend to do what they really love doing. This band was started with only one motivation: to create something beautiful with pure feeling and without concern for genres, labels, or fashion.

Our plans for the future are to create as much music as we can, play as many shows as we can, see the country in our van, and have as much fun together as possible until life takes us our separate ways. We’ve also discussed all moving to the same town, somewhere new. I don’t know exactly what will happen- my band mates are my brothers and I don’t see us losing sight of each other any time soon. I imagine we will record another album when we get enough new songs together and work them out for live shows before touring.
