I've played in many bands in the past, but I am just now getting into the music scene in Quincy. My biggest moment so far was playing with Cheeks McGee and Kyle and Danny Mabie at the Local Q Music Fest. I met a lot of musicians and people behind the music scene and everybody is so friendly here.

From the Band
Pete Magliocco plays a variety of his favorite songs from all different genres, from punk to old country music. He puts a personal touch on these songs, as they mean so much to him. He brings a bit of silly, a lot of candor, and hopefully the chance to hear songs that either people have not heard before, or ones that bring back good memories to his performances.

From the Band
In June of 2010, three guys gathered at a cookout of a mutual friend. As they where setting around listening to music and knocking a few back it stuck them. "Hey, we are all musicians between bands." The very next day DRILLD was born. We are a 100% original band with our sights on driving the bus for the future of music.

Musical Influences

From the Band
“…Absolutely twangy, good old-fashioned American Rock & Roll – a sound that makes sense when you consider their name, a combination of ‘hippy’ and ‘redneck.’ Their enthusiasm for their craft is obvious and infectious. Remember the name, because this band is going places.” — Jambase.com

That sound has been called “a jambalaya“ by press and “country fried jam” by fans alike. Take it from the name, The HipNecks, which combines the words “Hippie” and Redneck” as affectionately as it unites trucker hats and flip-flops. Within the sentiment lays their genre-bending approach to making music. Music that is, in every way, firmly rooted beneath their feet in the fertile ground of the American Midwest near the Ozark Mountains.

No sooner than their first performance in 2004, the HipNecks broke ground on their first album, Just Another Fine Day, and released it feverously in April 2005. After selling over 300 copies the night of the release show, the band stormed the Midwest for 2 years completing several small tours that brought them as far out as Colorado’s front range (twice) and won a National Battle of the Bands along the way. From 2007 – 2008, the HipNecks were holed up in Jamestown, MO’s Bridge Studio, whipping up another batch of that ‘jambalaya,’ with new ingredients: mandolin and piano. The HipNecks sophomore creation, American Night, was released April 10, 2008.

In 2010, the band underwent several lineup changes including the departure of long time drummer Zach Stubbs and co-founding member Scott Anderson, who was credited with writing most of the band’s songs to that point. Local powerhouse drummer Danny Carroll was recruited from the band Bockman, as well as Organist/Pianist/Vocalist Wes Wingate from bands The Doxies and The Stingrays. The HipNecks promptly began recording new material under the wing of Home Tone Records at Mansion Studious in Columbia, MO with the intention of releasing a single every several months as the songs were completed in-studio. The first of these, Mighty Mississippi was released July 23, 2010. The second edition, Sni-A-Bar Stomp was released September 17, 2010 with a third single waiting on deck for Spring 2011.

This Hipnecks have shared stages with Little Feat, Cracker, The Music Mafia (Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson, James Otto, Cowboy Troy, Jon Nicholson, et. al.), Dr. Zhivegas, Big Smith, The Red Dirt Rangers, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Jason Boland's Stragglers (sans Jason), and have been on tours that included Bubba Sparxxx, the Yin Tang Twins, and Tech N9ne.

They have also been fortunate enough to participate in such festival events as the Columbia, MO 9th Street Summerfest, Loyal Earth Day Festival, The Bluebird Festival, The Euphio Campout, the Lifestylez Snodaze Tour, Dogstock, Lupus Chilifest and more.

"... a beautifully harmonized band. There's enough intelligent songwriting here to merit attending any Hipnecks live performance," — Comomusic.com

From the Band
Before you begin to point your fingers at their faults, you should know that The Hong Kong Sleepover already knows they’re not perfect, nor pretend to be. In fact, the more distorted and deranged you think they are, the closer you are to what really drives them, which is honesty. An honest, stripped down approach to the genre of music that brought you Motorhead, Anthrax, Corrosion of Conformity, and Metallica (pre-haircuts) is the desired result of their live performances, which are more like metaphoric sacrifices to the god of metal – who resembles Lemmy Kilmister, only with horns. It was this deity that was summoned to produce their first LP, "Mustard," which was released in the autumnal equinox of 2009, and contains ten original tracks.

Mustard is a collaborative effort by all four members of The Hong Kong Sleepover, who formed almost exactly half-way around the world from the Far Eastern city from which they take their name. While Macomb, Ill., has seven million people less than Hong Kong, it did have the good fortune of being the residence of band co-founders Ted Renner (lead vocals) and Pete Thompson (lead guitar/vocals) who quickly recruited Mike Kump to play drums. Several months later, the band found a young, but able Statesboro, Georgia native Waylon Brown to play bass. With Brown in place, The Hong Kong Sleepover immediately felt as if all pistons were firing. They were able to shred the veil of anonymity and demand that their "laugh at yourself and your puny existence" message be heard.

While the band demands that The Hong Kong Sleepover fans take a tongue-in-cheek approach to their music, make no mistake, this is not the approach the band took when recording their debut album. The making of Mustard is an extremely serious venture that is evident early in the album by the Mao Zedong-like call to arms, “Fist of Consequence.” An evidently humorous song, “The Greasy Wheel,” follows later, but there is nothing funny about the driving rhythm and lead guitar that make this track a staple in the band’s live shows. And the arrogant march of “Bad as They Come” follows an Alice Cooper-like power chord slither, and is only complemented by the thrash metal “Hatchet Man,” which, instead of letting you slowly off the hook at the end of the album, adds that one last, "in your face" drive.

So, until The Hong Kong Sleepover pushes their way through the government controlled airwaves and kicks you in the head while you unconsciously suffocate inside your leased Ford Focus, take the initiative to pass through their proverbial “demilitarized zone” and check them out for yourself.
