The West Central Illinois Arts Center is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization with the mission of providing a place for artists to gather and share their work, a place for learning and exploring all the arts, and a place for active participation in arts related activities for all ages.

Why does Macomb and the West Central region of Illinois need an arts center? To provide an artistic outlet for the community, to serve as an economic driver for businesses and services, and to advance the quality of life for all local and regional residents.

The Permanent Collection is comprised of over 1,200 objects of art in a variety of two and three-dimensional media, including contemporary prints and drawings, "Old Master" prints, painting, photography, sculpture, and ceramics. Major areas of research and collection are WPA paintings and prints,"old master" prints and contemporary graphics, including prints and drawings and works on paper. Minor areas of research and collection include contemporary paintings, sculpture, glass and ceramics. The collection also includes photographs by regional photographers.

People of all ages enjoy the Grand Theatre by participating on the stage, attending one of the performances, taking a guided tour of the building, renting the building for events, and volunteering their time and money.

The Grand Theatre was designed by Merle F. Baker and was constructed on the foundation of the Keokuk Opera House (Circa 1880) which burned in 1923. It was patterned after theaters in Chicago and was praised as one of the finest theaters in the country at the time.

Lewis Street Playhouse, first known as the Miller-Starr Opera House, was built in 1893 at 405 Lewis Street in Canton. The facility hosted traveling stage performances in the 1800s and early 1900s, then later functioned as a movie theater. After standing vacant since the early 1980s, the Canton Area Arts Council began plans in 2005 to revitalize the facility, and work was completed on the beautiful art deco building in 2008.

Richard Garey is the executive director of Heritage Stage Productions and owner of the historic Planters Barn Theater in Hannibal, Missouri. A veteran stage actor and director for more than 30 years, Garey combines his love of history, his literary insights and his skill as an actor to bring the role of Mark Twain to life. He has more than six hours of Twain material in his repertoire all from the pen of Mark Twain.

Starry Night Repertory is a new professional non-Equity theatre founded in 2009. We are located in Macomb and perform in various community venues as well as tour in the region. Our premiere production will be in January, 2010. We plan to produce two plays in the spring of 2010 and up
to four productions for the 2010-11 season.
